Children's Assembly on Iona
As well as being an Associate Member of the Presbytery of Lanka, St. Andrew’s is a fully functioning member of the Presbytery of Europe. In October 2010, Daan and Julia, two of our Sunday school children were able to attend the Children’s assembly on Iona hosted by the Church of Scotland and at the end of February this year, Gyan and Anabella, will be attending the Youth Presbytery in Amsterdam hosted by the Presbytery of Europe.

Preschool Education
As part of its post-tsunami reconstruction programme, St. Andrew’s built two preschools, one near Hikkaduwa and the other near Mawella. Our involvement in these preschools continues. Both schools are fully functional. The children and staff celebrated their end of year programmes with school festivals. Meanwhile, further material improvement of both schools continues with a new rear wall and gutters at Hikkaduwa and new ceiling work at Mawella.

As part of its post-conflict reconstruction programme, St. Andrew’s enabled the reconstruction of the preschool at St. Andrew’s Pallai, which also celebrate its end of year programme with a Christmas party.

For many years, St. Andrew’s Scots Kirk has been a patron of Ladies Ward 19 at Mulleriyawa Mental Hospital. As well as making regular monthly visits to the ward, we have been improving living conditions for the ladies. Very recently, the interior of the ward was repainted.

Even more recently, with the help of a group of friends from Fenwick Parish Church in Scotland, the exterior of the ward has also been painted. There is more to do. The next project will be the floor of the ward.

At the same time, we have been able to present gifts from Donald and Frances Cameron who have returned to Scotland and to build a safety net cage for the laundry drying area.

The team from Fenwick also visited Netherlee Cottage and helped us to improve on the interior decoration there.
