The past couple of months have been a very busy and encouraging time for the congregation at St. Andrew’s. On Easter Sunday, six young people made a profession of their Christian faith and were welcomed into the fellowship of the church, two in Baptism and four by Confirmation.

Just a few weeks later, three members of the congregation David Mathews, Christo Perera and Dik van der Linden were ordained to serve as ruling Elders in the Kirk Session.

Meanwhile, the mission work of the church has continued at ward 19 of Mulleriyawa Mental hospital. At a Sinhalese and Tamil New Year party, hosted by St. Andrew’s in the ward, a new dress was provided for each of the 55 patients. And a month later, thanks to the generosity of members of the congregation and their friends, new mattresses for all of the beds were delivered, including folding mattresses for the few ladies who still prefer to sleep on the floor.

Visits have been made to our two preschools, one at Hikkaduwa and the other at Mawella, to see the progress of the work – new pavements, new boundary walls, new teaching spaces, all provided to ensure a safe environment for the fifty children involved, together with their teachers.
