Visits have been made to our two preschools, one at Hikkaduwa and the other at Mawella, to see the progress of the work – new pavements, new boundary walls, new teaching spaces, all provided to ensure a safe environment for the fifty children involved, together with their teachers.

Dinethya Preschool
There are 26 children attending the schools and there were applications in for 5 or 6 new pupils. There was insurance cover for all children, staff and visitors. There are 4 staff, one of which, Champa, was attending Phase 2 of the British Council English course in Galle.

The painting of both sides of the boundary wall, furniture, windows and playground equipment had been completed. Storage shelving had been installed in the main classroom. Colour schemes for the painting of the inside and outside of the main school building and the new outdoor classroom area were discussed and agreed upon.

Shona Crosbie brought a group from Fenwick, Scotland and they lived at their own expense in Hikkaduwa, provided paint for the buildings and completed the paintwork.

Rashini Suranga Preschool
There are 18 children. A large consignment of books, toys and games had been received through the Rotary Club of High Wycombe. The soft toys had been distributed to the children.
The pavement had been much improved by the application of a smooth cement finish. Same needs to be done to the verandah ceiling.

The North & South

Two of the ladies, viz. Gloriana Razeek and Rita Welter visited them and submitted a report the Kirk Session.
