Our Sunday School
At our Sunday School we use the curriculum from UK called Go Learn/Go Teach. It is very biblical creative material which is a good development for our Sunday school. It makes it easier for the teachers to teach and nicer for the children to work in their own books. In a view years time they cover all the Bible stories from the Bible.

Before Christmas, Sunday School will present its Nativity Service.

We create cards, wrapping paper etc for the annual Bazaar in November.

In March we did a picnic and games time of get together with parents, teachers and children. As we had a real PE teacher doing the games with us, it was a lot of fun.

Our Sunday School coordinator is Mrs. Manju Severatna who has over 10 years experience teaching in our in Sunday School.

Youth Group’s Visit to Netherlee Cottage:
Our Youth Group paid a visit to the ladies at Netherlee Cottage on June 20th, 2010. The purpose of this visit was part of the youth study on ethics which to date has covered the topics of Christian music, bullying, addictions/self control, caring for the less able/elderly and poverty. We will soon embark on the subject of Human Rights

In our discussions on poverty, the youth were keen to find ways of reaching out to those in need of not just financial assistance, but also in need of love, care and attention. Hence our visit to Netherlee Cottage.

Netherlee Cottage is the home of six members of our congregation who were once patients in ward 19 of the Mulleriyawa Mental Hospital. As part of its outreach program, St Andrew’s took on the role of selecting and caring for six ladies to reside at a house in Thalahena. They are looked after by a house mother and an assistant.

The youth leaders believe that this activity was excellent exposure for the youth and an opportunity to put our Christian learning into action. The youth got a chance of spending time interacting with our six lady friends living at the cottage. It also taught them that there are a number of ways where we can help those in need and we can each find creative ways of doing so.
