Mission:
Several
social responsibility programmes are undertaken:
- Netherlee Cottage is a home provided for six women,
formerly patients at Mulleriyawa.
- Ward 19 at Mulleriyawa Mental Hospital cares for women. A
monthly visit is made with activities and food provided. Gifts of
clothing and personal items are made. Outings from the ward are arranged
and a contribution is made to its upkeep.
- Netherlee Scout Group meets in the Church grounds on
Saturday afternoon. It caters for boys of Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and
Christian backgrounds.
- Rural development is provided through “Neighbours in Need” outreach programme Projects to date have included preschool education, wells, toilets and primary health care in several rural communities.
- A Thrift Shop is operated weekly in the Church Hall,
providing an opportunity for goods to be recycled. An annual Bazaar in
November is an extension to this fund-raising activity. These are
managed by the St. Andrew’s Fellowship.
